I had participated in FLL in 4th and 5th grade, both years advancing to the State tournament for our region. We always placed very highly, but just a little to low to qualify for the national tournament. After FLL, I moved on to more advanced robotics programs like Botball and FRC, but they all share the common characteristic of working as a team on a challenging task.
I mentored a team of middle schoolers throughout the regular season in both the technical robotics side, and also the FLL Project side. For the 2017 season, I taught the entire team how to write basic iPhone apps with Swift, and they used this new knowledge to create an app to help residents save water.
